For the first time in my life, I felt at home while at home. Violet Valley is more than a bookstore; it is a testament to queer gumption and resilience. However, one place where I could be myself was in between the pages of books. We lived on Long Island but would hop on the LIRR on weekends in the summers into the city where we could freely indulge in queer fiction without our immigrant families finding out.
