Gia carangi gay
Even as troubled as she was, her exit from the fashion industry left a gaping hole and people longed for her dark-haired, brown-eyed beauty. She is all nuance and suggestion, like a series of images by Bertolucci. She strikes sparks, not poses. Index of Stories.
Gia Carangi did androgynous style like no other
One of her first shoots saw her pose nude behind a chain-link fence with make-up artist Sandy Linter for photographer Chris von Wangenheim. The shoot was her breakout moment, and led to her modelling for labels including Versace and Dior, and legendary photographers like Helmut Newton and Arthur Elgort.
She would eventually get diagnosed with AIDS. Gia spent her last months battling AIDS -- the battle she would ultimately lose in at 26 years old. Gia became one of the first women to die of AIDS. In our interview last year, Linter recounted the last time she saw her. So she was sobbing quietly.
